Tuna Onigiri

Hand-shaped Japanese rice triangles filled with a light tuna mayo and wrapped in crisp nori. They make a perfect grab-and-go snack or lunchbox addition.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cooked short-grain rice, warm
  • 3 oz canned tuna, drained
  • 1 tbsp light mayo
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp scallions, minced
  • 2 sheets nori, halved
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Mix the drained tuna with mayo, soy sauce, and scallions in a small bowl.
  2. Season the warm rice with a pinch of salt and mix gently.
  3. Wet your hands with water to keep the rice from sticking.
  4. Press about 1/3 cup of rice into your palm and make a well in the center.
  5. Spoon a portion of the tuna filling into the well, then fold the rice over to enclose it.
  6. Shape the rice into a firm triangle.
  7. Wrap a strip of nori around the base of each onigiri and serve.
