About LowCalFoodie
Our Mission
LowCalFoodie was created with one simple goal: make low calorie eating effortless and enjoyable. We believe that eating healthy shouldn't mean complicated recipes, expensive ingredients, or feeling hungry all the time.
What We Offer
Unlike traditional recipe blogs, LowCalFoodie is a tool-first platform. Our core features include:
- Calorie & macro calculators - Calorie gap, BMI, TDEE, BMR, macro, protein, body-fat, and ideal-weight calculators, all free
- Meal Planner - Tell us what ingredients you have, and we'll match them to recipes with full cooking instructions
- Meal Prep Planner - 7-day plans with auto-generated shopping lists and cost estimates
- Recipe Library - 323 low calorie recipes (most under 500 calories, up to 690), organized by calorie range, meal type, cuisine, and diet
- Fast Food Guide - Low calorie options at popular restaurants, for when you can't cook
- Evidence-based guides - Articles on meal prep, nutrition, and sustainable weight loss
Editorial Standards & Nutrition Methodology
We want you to be able to trust the numbers you see here. Here is exactly how our content is produced:
- Recipe development. Recipes are developed and tested in a home kitchen. Ingredient lists and step-by-step instructions reflect what we actually cook.
- Nutrition estimates. Per-serving calories, protein, carbs, fat, and fiber are estimated from standard ingredient nutrition data (USDA FoodData Central values where available), not lab-verified. Actual values vary with the specific brands, sizes, and preparation you use. Treat the numbers as a reliable guide, not an exact measure.
- Serving sizes. Nutrition is listed per serving as noted on each recipe. Use the servings adjuster on each recipe page to scale.
- Calculator formulas. Our calorie, TDEE, BMR, macro, and related calculators use published, standard formulas (Mifflin-St Jeor for BMR; established activity multipliers; Navy method for body fat). Results are estimates for healthy adults and not a substitute for individualized medical or nutritional advice.
- Content review. Guides and tool logic are reviewed by our editorial team for accuracy and clarity before publishing, and refreshed periodically.
- Sources & updates. When nutrition science or product specs change, we update affected pages and note the change.
Editorial Team
LowCalFoodie is produced by a small editorial team focused on practical, evidence-based low calorie cooking. We are not medical professionals or registered dietitians, and our content is general guidance - not individualized nutrition or medical advice.
We are in the process of adding a registered dietitian nutrition advisor to formally review our nutrition content. In the meantime, if you have a health condition (diabetes, eating disorder recovery, pregnancy, GLP-1 therapy, etc.), please work with a qualified clinician or registered dietitian for guidance tailored to you.
Our Nutrition Philosophy
- Sustainability over speed - A diet you can stick to beats a crash diet every time
- Protein and fiber first - These are the keys to feeling full on fewer calories
- Whole foods - We prioritize real, minimally processed ingredients
- Flexibility - No food is forbidden; it's about overall patterns, not single meals
